PROJECT TYPE: Alterations & additions, Birrell St, Queens Park
COMPLETION DATE: November 2015
SITE AREA: 151 m2 + FLOOR AREA: 98 m2
BUILDER: Baker Developments
JOINERY: Interex
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project already had DA approval when we were brought on board and while the design was strong, it required some finesse to resolve the structural requirements and generally bring it in line with the clients desired aesthetics.
House of Origin adjusted the approved roof-form, raised the height of the doors connecting the new living space to the vastly improved rear deck as well as adding some special lighting for added flair!
The roof, clerestory windows and box-gutter required significant structural support, which we took as a cue to highlight the difference in spaces between the newly opened kitchen, living room and dining space.
We achieved this by cladding the structure in timber and changing the function of the kitchen storage areas. This veneer is then utilised, in combination with expressed plywood edges, for all 5 of the new joinery items in the baby's room, the master bedroom and the guest room/office.
We were also able to salvage timber from the floor structure for repurposing as a beautiful, thick outdoor bar as well as a gorgeous privacy screen. This screen creates spectacular shadows day and night, brining to life the outdoor dining area and the new, open living space.
The overall scheme makes use of expressed timber and brick, contrasted with clean white and grey.
We are pleased and our clients are happy.
